Poor Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Player Spawns Has Activision Pulling Maps

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has just been officially released, and among reports of development crunch, Activision is pulling multiplayer maps due to bad player spawns.

Although it has only officially launched today, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has seen unchecked turbulence. With reports circling about a one-and-a-half-year-long development crunch and critic/user reviews alike that blast a poorly constructed campaign, Modern Warfare 3‘s looked towards its ‘strongest point,’ a well-constructed multiplayer experience, but even that game mode appears to have run into snags.

Players have been reporting spawn issues that are causing havoc on certain multiplayer maps, allowing players to spawn incredibly close to the opposing team, essentially allowing teams to decimate their opponents the moment they respawn on the battlefield. Below is the official announcement from the Call of Duty Updates X (formerly Twitter) account, detailing which maps are affected.

These issues have arisen after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 faced reports that the game’s campaign was “underbaked,” and the latest title in the Activision franchise only officially launched today. Fans have taken to the social media site to post video clips expressing their impending frustration with the way multiplayer games are being played.

One of the more inflammatory statements comes from user Maticus420, who says: MWIII is terrible. Spawns are still horrible and it feels like every player is moving so fast that you can see them and fire at them, but they are actually two feet in front of where you see them in the game, so every single shot misses. It gets pathetic. Call of Duty is NOT fun” on his X account.

Fans have also taken to Reddit to grieve the ‘broken’ spawn system, under a thread facetiously titled “Ladies and gentlemen – I present the perfectly balance spawn system of Modern Warfare 3.” The thread is headlined by a video that shows egregious spawn killing and may not be for the faint of heart. Still, fans have piled on underneath, blasting the entire series and categorizing every game in the Activision franchise as having a broken respawn system.

While the developers at Sledgehammer Games are aware of these issues (they did pull Quarry, Rundown and Scrapyard), it remains to be seen how fast they correct these ongoing issues with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3‘s troubled launch.
