During today’s Nintendo Partner Direct, Nintendo pulled back the curtain on some surprising announcements, and one of which was the return of Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed.

A torrent of new offerings was unleashed on unsuspecting Nintendo Switch owners today, as a new (not Super Mario related or first-party related in any way) partner showcase aired today that saw the return of some surprising third-party offerings. It has now been confirmed Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is making a return as a remaster of the Wii favourite which was released way back in 2010. Nintendo made no mention of the co-op sequel starring Mickey and Oswald the Rabbit that was released two years later, but they did release a trailer that can be seen below.

The original 3D platformer Disney Epic Mickey launched nearly 14 years ago, and outside of the actual Wii console, this is the only way that has been introduced to (legally) play the title since it launched all of those years ago. The trailer touts Rebrushed as a “faithful remake,” which promises to keep the experience as close to the original as possible but with updated graphics, of course.

What’s interesting is back in 2013, Nintendo shuttered the former studio behind the original Disney Epic Mickey, Junction Point, headed by Warren Spector, due to “disappointing sales” on the sequel Epic Mickey 2. While the remaster does aim to revive the original well-received title from 2010 (it did receive a 73% on Metacritic from critics and 74% from fans), it remains to be seen if THQ Nordic can recapture the lightning in a bottle that was released from Junction Point 14 years ago.

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed Is Coming To Nintendo Switch With A New Coat Of Paint

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed lands on the Nintendo Switch sometime this year, and gamers should note if they also own an Xbox Series S/X console they will also have access to the remaster as well, as Xbox has also launched the trailer on their official YouTube channel. Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed currently has no concrete release date, but CGMagazine will keep readers covered on any developments that happen.
