Gamescom ONL Stage Crasher Has Done It Before & Security Speaks Out

Gamescom ONL 2023 was the home to many exciting reveals and new gameplay, but there was a hiccup near the beginning that saw a stage crasher interrupt Geoff Keighley, and the security team was “expecting” it.

At The Game Awards 2022, a stage crasher interrupted the biggest moment of the night by interrupting FromSoftware on stage. Gamescom ONL had a similar invasion, but this time, it occurred near the beginning of the show. A man waltzed onto the stage, claiming “Bill Clinton wants to play GTA6” repeatedly until he was removed by security.

Geoff Keighley was not fond of the moment, as he promptly said right after, “That’s just so disappointing,” with  “This is such a special night for so many developers, it’s really disappointing to see someone act that way” regarding the Gamescom ONL interruption. While it has been less than 24 hours since the interruption, more information has come out about the issue.

The man who interrupted the stage is an alleged repeat offender, with the same mentioning of GTA6, and this was two days before Gamescom ONL. Spotted by Dexterto, a man storms the broadcast of Doppelpass, a show that talks about the biggest German Football League, the Bundesliga with cries of GTA 6 but in German. The host is seen throwing his drink at the intruder before he is promptly escorted away by security. This debacle can be seen below.

The Gamescom Head Christian Baur spoke to VGC regarding the incident, saying, “We’ve been expecting somebody to try and do that, what happened yesterday, and that’s why the security was where they were, and that’s why within seconds the guy was actually crowded up by the security and taken off the stage, and then the police were there,” with a mention of the previous intrusion on the Doppelpass “It’s unfortunate – what happened at Geoff’s show, the guy who did it actually did it on live TV in Germany before, asking for GTA 6“.

While not much more info has been given regarding the stage intruder, Gamescom is still underway, and fans can keep up with the action by heading over to the official website to stay in the loop of what’s next for gaming. Fans can also read our recap of ONL here!
