Riding the coattails of a six award-winning run at The Game Awards 2022 with Ragnarok, God of War is getting a live-action series ordered from Amazon.

The massive announcement was revealed on Twitter with a simple “God of War is coming,” because that’s all they truly had to tweet. However, that’s not the only tidbit of information regarding the massive announcement made by Amazon. Actual details about the showrunner and other fun revelations were given as well. The Tweet with the brief announcement attached can be seen below.

Rafe Judkins who is known for The Wheel of Time will serve as showrunner on the adaptation, and Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, Oscar-nominated writing talent, are writing and executive producing along with the tagged Judkins. Of course, Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios are credited with production, with PlayStation Productions.

Head of Global Television at Amazon Studios, Vernon Sanders said “God of War is a compelling, character-driven franchise that we believe will captivate our global customers as much with its expansive and immersive worlds as its rich storytelling,” including “We are honored to share in the adventure of exploring the God of War mythology in such a momentous way with Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and [game developer] Santa Monica Studio,” The Hollywood Reporter reports.

While no Kratos lead actor has been presented just yet, it is notable that the Amazon Studios rendition of the massive franchise will just skip over the entire Greece saga, and pick up right where 2018’s title starts. This avoidance of the Greek saga’s juxtaposition might be confusing to some, but the project is in its infancy stage at the moment, so fans will just have to see how it pans out.

The new God of War project joins The Last of Us as Sony projects jumping to the silver screen, and more information is sure to follow in the coming weeks regarding the massive project.
