Magic: The Gathering x Jurassic World Crossover Announced

Magic: The Gathering x Jurassic World Crossover Announced 1

Magic: The Gathering announced their next crossover with Jurassic World and Chris Pratt, as they showed off four of the new cards.

Wizards of the Coast’s Magic: The Gathering has been well-known for their strange and iconic crossover cards. They have collaborated with such major IPs such as Fallout, Doctor Who, The Lord of the Rings and so much more. This time, they are inviting card collectors into the Jurassic World universe. They have also been able to show off four of the new cards, one included Chris Pratt’s character from the films, Owen Grady.

Like the Transformers crossover cards in The Brothers’ War set, the Jurassic World Collection will contain 26 cards. Each card will depict famous characters and scenes from the various Jurassic Park/World movies. Of the ones revealed already, the four cards included Owen Grady (depicted by Chris Pratt), his raptor friend Blue, the infamous “Clever Girl” scene but from the raptor’s perspective, and a double-sided basic Mountain showing the island’s central mountain peacefully on one side and erupting with lava on the other (from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom).

Apparently, even Jeff Goldblum’s Dr. Ian Malcolm will be making an appearance on some of the future cards. It was also teased that there would be a “Welcome to…Jurassic Park” reference card that would act as a land card as well. Other dinosaurs that were teased included the Indominus Rex, the Indoraptor, and the famous Tyrannosaurus from the first Jurassic Park movie.

Every card in this Magic: The Gathering collab will have a 1-in-12 chance of being found in Set Boosters for the upcoming Lost Caverns of Ixalan set, and one is guaranteed to show up in every Collector Booster. The Ixalan set will contain a lot of dinosaurs that will sort of tie-in to the Jurassic Park/World universe. This set was said to be influenced by both the plane’s dinosaur-centric fauna and Meso- and South American cultures.

New for Lost Caverns of Ixalan will be Special Guests, a new approach to reprints that will see “Masters release-level” cards reappear in sets with artwork themed around the set. For Lost Caverns, those cards will include merfolk creature Lord of Atlantis and the Mana Crypt artifact.

The Lost Caverns of Ixalan officially launches on the Magic: The Gathering website November 17, where players and collectors will be able to snag some historic dinosaurs to add to their collection. The pre-release in stores will be on November 10th. You too can be an paleontologist…in a weird sense! Wizards of the Coast hinted that more Jurassic World cards are due to appear in a future Secret Lair drop, following on the movie crossovers of next month’s Spookydrop.
