Netflix Introduces Clips, A New Feature For Mobile Users

Netflix is expanding their mobile platform with a sleek new update, including Clips, and more to come.

“Clips” are the new big thing on Netflix mobile. Clips is a vertical video feed similar to that of Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts. The main function of Clips is to give users quick glimpses of shows and movies to help reduce scrolling to find the right thing to watch. These clips are personalized, so if you’re only watching anime on Netflix, your feed should mainly be anime too.

Here is a list of features included with Clips that Netflix shared with us:

  • Add to ‘My List’: See something you like? Add movies and shows straight to your list from the feed.
  • Share: Want to relive that long-awaited kiss, look for clues behind that OMG twist, or turn a friend onto your favourite comfort watch? Use the arrow at the bottom to share recommendations to your friends and followers via text or social media directly from the feed.
  • Explore: Planning a family movie night? Or just need a good laugh? Browse a world of entertainment personalized to help you decide what to press play on next.

Netflix is looking to expand Clips in the future, with plans to add content from podcasts and live programming to your feed. There will also be genre-based collections to narrow down your search if you’re really looking for something specific.

Alongside Clips, mobile users will also find a sleek new design to the platform.

Netflix’s Chief Product and Technology Officer, Elizabeth Stone, said, “Mobile is an important part of how Netflix members stay connected to the entertainment they love. With our enhanced navigation and Clips, our new vertical video feed, we’re building on past learnings to deliver an experience designed for the way members want to enjoy Netflix on their phones: for the moments in between, to discover a new title, or a quick laugh.”

They elaborated with, “Our vision is to make our mobile experience as entertaining as what you watch, delivering increasingly personalized, immersive experiences for any mood or moment. This is just the beginning.”

This update is now out in Canada, the US, the UK, Australia, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines and South Africa. The next few months will see the update release in Brazil, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, and Mexico, with the update rolling out worldwide over the summer.
