SAG-AFTRA Strike Has Ended With Historic Billion Dollar Deal

Major Win For SAG-AFTRA Members

SAG AFTRA Strike Has Ended After $1 Billion Dollar Deal

A new agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) has been reached, an over $1 billion deal, and SAG-AFTRA is saying the deal is an improvement for members in every way.

In a statement late yesterday evening, SAG-AFTRA said they’re effectively ending their 118-day-long strike due to reaching a massive new agreement with the AMPTP, reportedly valued at over $1 billion. The statement says the new agreement is “a deal of extraordinary scope that includes “above-pattern” minimum compensation increases, unprecedented provisions for consent and compensation that will protect members from the threat of AI, and for the first time establishes a streaming participation bonus.” According to SAG-AFTRA, all members have ended picketing by 12:01 a.m. this morning.

The AMPTP has also released their own statement on the deal, saying “the biggest contract-on-contract gains in the history of the union, including the largest increase in minimum wages in the last forty years; a brand new residual for streaming programs; extensive consent and compensation protections in the use of artificial intelligence; and sizable contract increases on items across the board.”

The deal ends the longest strike in SAG-AFTRA history, and actors have taken to the internet to speak out about how it’s finally over. Mark Hamill made an X (formerly Twitter) post that reads, “AT LAST… they have reached a “tentative” agreement… and I am tentatively thrilled beyond words!!!” Misha Collins (Supernatural) also expressed relief on X for the strike conclusion, but in a different way by stating he’s happy for two reasons, “First, I am no longer prohibited by the union from saying things like “Castiel” and “Supernatural” and “Get out of my ass,” and second, I am relieved that I can finally go from being a striking actor to an unemployed actor!”

With the strike ending, projects previously placed on hold can go back into production. The previously reset Daredevil: Born Again series, Netflix’s renewed The Sandman season two, and Joker: Folie à Deux can continue production unhindered. Fans can swing over to the official SAG-AFTRA statement or the official AMPTP statement for more information regarding the historic deal for both sides.
