The massive Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s update 1.002.000 from Insomniac Games accidentally enables a debug menu intended for developers.
Insomniac Games has been teasing the ‘mega’ update for Spider-Man 2 for some time now. The updated version 1.002.000 is intended to extend the life of the title, bringing new features like New Game Plus and Mission Replay. But that’s not all fans received when they opened up the sequel after update 1.002.000 was installed, as many have rushed to the internet to report the update has given fans access to the developer-only intended debug menu. Insomniac is also aware of the situation and has provided feedback on the X (formerly Twitter) platform, which can be seen below.
Insomniac has warned fans that using the Spider-Man 2 debug menu can corrupt save files and trounce trophy progress, so they’re essentially warning players, “With great power comes great responsibility.” However, that has not stopped fans from discussing the menu and what it brings to the table over on Reddit, where it was initially discovered and shared this morning. Fans have discovered that not only can they activate cheats and use a chapter skip, but they can view how the game is performing (a common sight on a debug screen) and even turn on cheats!
Probably the most damning thing fans have found in the debug menu is a potential lead on Spider-Man 2 DLC. The debug menu allegedly shows details on chapters (in the chapter select menu) related to new missions that appear to feature Spider-Man’s longtime nemesis, the Beetle. Fans should take this news with a grain of salt, however, as no formal announcement has yet been made by Marvel or Sony.
Insomniac Games has already issued a warning that they will be taking the debug menu down with a hotfix at any moment, so I’m not saying to run and try the debug menu before it leaves or anything, but it won’t be around forever.
