HTC Vive announced that the HTC Vive PRO HMD is will be available globally in April with pre-orders available today.
Shipping of the new VR system will begin on April 5, 2018 at an MSRP of $799 CAD. The current Vive is receiving a $100 price reduction, bringing the system to $499 CAD. All Vive Pro HMDs bought before June 3, 2018, will come with a free six-month trial of Viveport Subscription. Here customers can choose up to five titles per month from over 400 that are currently available.
“With the Vive Pro we are delivering the best quality display and visual experience to the most discerning VR enthusiasts. Our goal has always been to offer the most premium VR platform available and to drive adoption for VR,” said Daniel O’Brien, GM U.S, VIVE. “By lowering the price of the current Vive, we are making VR more accessible while expanding the potential market for developers. Whether you’re a VR enthusiast or new to the platform, there’s never been a better time to join the most complete VR platform available.”
The Vive Pro is equipped with dual-OLED displays which give the headset a resolution of 2880 x 1600. This gives the new device a 78 per cent increase in resolution over the current Vive HMD. The Vive pro also comes with headphones that contain a built-in amplifier that creates a sense of presence and sound through the noise cancelling headset.
The Vive was originally released back in 2016 and it was the first of its kind to introduce this new type of virtual reality platform. The system operates by optimizing a room through cameras. The Vive then tracks your physical movements and brings that into the game. Through the Steam platform, over 3,000 games have been created for the Vive. Popular games like Fallout 4 have made the transition to Vive, and Skyrim is expected to make its way to the VR system as well.
Customers who buy the current Vive full kit at its new price of $499 CAD, will receive two free months of Viveport Subscription and a redemption code for Fallout 4 VR.
