Amazon Closes Deal With Warhammer For Series And Movies 1

Amazon and Games Workshop confirmed today they will be collaboratively adapting shows and movies based on the world of Warhammer 40,000.

The world of Warhammer 40,000 has been an exponentially growing one since its inception back in 1987, with its tabletop format. Today, Amazon and Games Workshop signed the contracts to work on TV series and shows based on the popular IP. This was only a natural progression as even major celebrities like Henry Cavill, Rahul Kohli, Vin Diesel, and Ed Sheeran have been quite vocal about their fascination with the lore and lovely, carefully crafted miniatures. Cavill has already been confirmed to be an executive producer on the projects.

The two companies have fully worked out an agreement, allowing Amazon exclusive rights to create films and shows based in the Warhammer worlds. Of course, this would help Games Workshop acquire new fans in a similar manner to how Stranger Things really blew up Wizards of the Coast and Dungeons & Dragons.

With Cavill tapped on as an executive producer on these shows and films, I would not be surprised if he was also to star in them as well. It has been almost a year since the initial deal with Amazon and Games Workshop was announced, but now it has come to fruition. The blog on the Warhammer community page did not confirm any other major figures to be attached to any of their projects yet other than saying that they have an “elite band of screenwriters.” Ominous, but hopeful that they will get writers who share the same passion for the tabletop and miniature world as the fans.

The blog also revealed that while this was a major announcement, these projects would most likely take about two to three years, but they stated how they would tease things as much as they could as productions began ramping up. Not much else was revealed, but Warhammer fans can have some hope that their worlds can be adapted through a bigger medium.

Their cinematic trailers back in the day always used to be another intriguing aspect of the world for me as well, especially for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. I am excited to see how this will pan out, as the Arcane and Dota 2 series have surprised me with their Netflix video game-to-TV adaptations. Even seeing how Amazon successfully produced the Vox Machina series, I could see how Warhammer films and TV shows can be treated just as well.
