A recent leak claimed that the most recent Assassin’s Creed Invictus playtest revealed how the game is currently in poor shape.
Ubisoft continues to give fans a treasure trove of Assassin’s Creed projects to look forward to, from an upcoming Netflix series, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced to the first game’s remake. Based on a recent leak, Assassin’s Creed Invictus playtesters critically stated the game was “awful.” According to longtime Ubisoft leaker xj0nathan and verification from Insider Gaming, the recent April 30th playtest did not sound positive for the upcoming Fall Guys-style game.
Ubisoft never officially released any playtest reactions, but there seems to be a consensus that the game is still in rough work. Assassin’s Creed Invictus has been in development for years now, tinkering and testing how this multiplayer-only experience would work. In a May 2nd X post, xj0nathan shared a screenshot of what appeared to be an official, partially redacted email invite for an April 30 playtest. Then, they wrote on X that the PC-only test was “really f*****g bad.”
The game has been described as having Fall Guys elements, in that it is a knockout-round-based game, while maintaining the franchise’s art and animation. Based on what has already been revealed, the game simply appears to work, with players selecting one of their favourite characters to battle it out in areas set in iconic Assassin’s Creed locations. Reports say that matches feature up to 16 players competing across multiple rounds with different goals, such as team-based combat, free-for-alls, and speed-based parkour challenges.
As a player moves through the rounds, they can change their abilities and prepare their plan for the final battle. Apparently, unreleased footage showed several iconic Assassins from the franchise fighting in an arena from Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. For example, this could mean seeing Altaïr and Ezio facing off against Connor and Edward Kenway.
The project was formally announced back in September 2022 during the Ubisoft Forward showcase. It was shared among four new titles on a long roadmap, two of which have been released: Mirage and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Ubisoft Montreal is in charge of this multiplayer game, as they were the team behind the success of For Honor. Since the 2022 announcement, the PvP multiplayer experience does not seem likely to launch anytime soon, despite an initial 2025 release date that has been repeatedly pushed back.

With the slew of live service games failing to meet gamers’ expectations, perhaps Ubisoft is keeping this one close to its chest. It is also possible that Assassin’s Creed Invictus never sees the light of day. While this is not Ubisoft’s first rodeo with taking their IP and creating an entirely different playstyle, it has a lot of refining to do if they want this game to maintain concurrent players. Ubisoft Halifax and Behaviour Interactive’s Assassin’s Creed Rebellion was originally released for mobile devices back in 2018, approaching the world of Assassins in a whole new way, like the chibi-style character designs.
