Xbox announced their partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures and Mattel to bring some gaming exclusives inspired by the Barbie movie.
It is going to be a hot pink Barbie summer! Xbox just announced their collaboration with Warner Bros. Pictures and Mattel to bring some exclusive items and content. The exclusives range from specially-made dolls to in-game designs in Forza Horizon 5. Fans will also have an opportunity to win some custom-made Xbox Wireless Controller faceplates designed after Barbie and Ken’s distinct on-screen outfits, and more. There may have been a potential leak, or two included.
With the Barbie film set to hit theatres on July 21, opposite its bleaker opponent Oppenheimer, the green team wanted to celebrate the film by bringing the Barbie flair to their gaming platform. Forza Horizon 5 players can now unlock the 1956 Chevrolet Corvette EV Corvette and the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup with their iconic looks from the film. You too can drive in style like Ken and Barbie! Anyone who owns the game can download them from the in-game message centre and they will appear in your garage.
For those collecting Barbie dolls, Xbox mentioned how they wanted to highlight the diversity and inclusion of their community by reflecting that with Barbie dolls. So, they chose ten dolls to represent the most diverse doll lineup, fitting them in some of their latest Xbox gear and accessories—including an Xbox Series S console, Wireless Controller and an Adaptive Controller. Fans can win the dolls as part of an international sweepstakes.
Upon closer examination of the faceplates and controller, the custom controller has a mute button function on the bottom of the controller. This has never been seen before! Could this be an accidental sneak peek at a new function for the new controllers? Potentially. Microsoft and Xbox have yet to respond or confirm the rumours and comments.
Barbie fans know all about Barbie Land, her dream house and her fashionista eye for detail. They have created interchangeable controller faceplates in classic Xbox style to reflect Barbie’s style. They will also be giving away an “Xbox Series S built into the glamorous Barbie DreamHouse”.
