Level Up With Many Improvements!

Computex 2024: ASUS Republic of Gamers Unveils The ROG Ally X

With Computex 2024 going on, the ASUS Republic of Gamers has announced the all-new ROG Ally X with major hardware improvements.

Computex is a Computer Expo held in Taipei, Taiwan annually, and this year is quite a surprise with ASUS Republic of Gamers announcing a new line-up to the ROG Ally for fans of the handled gaming PC called the ROG Ally X. Although it has the same AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, it will receive upgraded storage, RAM, and battery life with updated chassis for improved ergonomics, cooling, and connectivity. With the updated features, the ROG Ally X is designed to play all your games better than ever!

As ASUS revealed the ROG Ally X at Computex, we get a better look at how the handheld has improved with this iteration. The storage has been expanded to a 1 TB SSD to ensure users have more room to store their games, a massive 512 GB difference compared to the original Ally. In addition, the updated model uses a redesigned motherboard featuring an M.2 2280 form factor slot, allowing users to upgrade their storage to larger drives more easily than it was previously possible.

Another upgrade users can look forward to is the 24GB of DDR5-7500 RAM for more flexibility. With the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU, it shares its video RAM with the device system RAM. As the modern game uses more VRAM for its high-resolution texture, the 24GB RAM allows users to allocate more memory to both the system and GPU for better performance as they play the next generation of triple-A titles.

With how important power consumption is when playing games portably, the ROG Ally X will be equipped with an 80 Wh battery, doubling the capacity of the previous ROG Ally model. With the sizable improvement in the battery life, the ROG Ally X will only weigh 70 grams more than the previous model, remaining light for optimal weight distribution and weighing 678 g altogether.

Outside the specs during the Computex Expo, the ROG Ally X received a redesigned chassis in a brand-new black colorway with a slightly deeper and more rounded shape for better comfort. The button and stick are arranged slightly for a more ergonomic angle, the triggers are slanted to make it easier to press, and the macro button on the back is smaller to reduce accidental presses. The biggest improvement to the redesign is the joystick being replaced with a new and more durable module rated for a 5-million-cycle lifespan and the D-Pad being improved for a more precise eight-direction input for fighting and retro games.

As part of the user request for more universal I/O, the original XG Mobile port has been replaced with two USB-C ports on the ROG Ally X, with one being Thunderbolt-compatible for wide support of third-party docks and external GPU.

Lastly, the ROG Ally X has improved thermals to accommodate the new battery. Featuring new fans that are 23% smaller but utilize a 50% thinner fan blade to improve airflow, two new tunnels in the fan housing to direct air up and out, and a third exhaust vent on the upper edge of the ROG Ally X. The new thermal solution provides 24% more air volume to be pushed through the device as not only will it cool the internal components, but also the touch screen for more comfortable long-term usage.

With the announcement from ASUS Rebuplic of Gamers about the ROG Ally X at the Computex 2024 Expo, are you excited? If so, it will be available for pre-order starting from June 2nd, 2024, on Best Buy and later in June on ASUS eShop for $1,199 (CAD), with the deliveries being estimated for the middle of July 2024.
