I was lucky enough to be invited to Snapdragon Summit 2026 by Qualcomm, where they just announced their dual strategy for the Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platform. Qualcomm announced that 2026 will bring a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chip and a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip, aiming to deliver the performance and power users have come to expect from the company while giving those tackling the most advanced AI workloads a new option.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is meant to be what you expect from a next-generation launch. Its goal is to bring users “premium performance and remarkable intelligence.” The company aims to offer the flagship experience we have come to know, but now also offers the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, offering more words to say, while pushing their platform to even more devices, delivering an even more premium experience with their smartphone partners.
“Today marks a milestone as we introduce not one, but two new flagship mobile platforms, delivering agentic AI experiences that are immediate, personal, and adaptive,” said Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Handsets, Chris Patrick. “As the agentic AI age evolves, our multi-flagship strategy allows us to push the boundaries of what’s possible for mobile while bringing our latest AI innovations to a broader range of premium devices.”
Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6
Qualcomm is introducing its most powerful mobile platform yet with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. This chip is designed for the most advanced Android smartphones and brings major upgrades across AI, gaming, camera, and performance. Qualcomm says it “delivers breakthrough AI capabilities and advanced performance to power the most advanced Android smartphones.”
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 aims to push agentic AI further with 50% larger shared memory, enabling deeper understanding and significantly enhanced on-device intelligence. Qualcomm aims to assist everyday AI agents in becoming faster, more personalized, and more dependable throughout the day.
Gaming gets a major lift thanks to Adreno Neural Fusion, which uses AI for intelligent graphics, super-resolution, and frame generation. The GPU also includes AI-dedicated Adreno matrix cores and 18 MB of high-performance memory for richer visuals and longer playtime.
For creators, the camera system adds Advanced Professional Video (APV) support, 8K60 video capture, and 4K240 ultra HD slow‑motion, along with the ability to understand scenes better, offering more natural‑looking results.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6
Qualcomm is also launching the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, another flagship platform built to bring many of the same next‑generation experiences to a larger range of premium smartphones. Qualcomm describes it as delivering “the next generation of mobile excellence.”
This chip introduces agentic AI features, including personal-context comprehension, anticipatory behaviour, learning and adapting over time, and zero-prompt photo editing. This is all thanks to its reengineered Qualcomm Hexagon NPU. It also includes the new Hexagon Element Accelerator to speed up everyday AI tasks.
Performance enhancements come from the custom-built Qualcomm Oryon CPU, offering peak speeds up to 5.0 GHz for fast, responsive experiences and seamless multitasking. Gaming benefits from intelligent graphics enhancements and the full suite of Snapdragon Elite Gaming features.
Gaming on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 remains impressive, with promises of fast, smooth gameplay thanks to intelligent graphics enhancements. Qualcomm also mentioned responsive controls and fluid reactions that we have come to know from Snapdragon, and that we can expect to see the full suite of Snapdragon Elite Gaming experiences.
On the camera side, the platform supports Intelligent Pixel Control, the Elite Colour Engine with 3DLUT, Intelligent Stabilization, and Motion Intelligence. Connectivity is powered by the Qualcomm X105 5G Modem‑RF, which they say “paves way [for] 6G,” along with AI‑enhanced wireless through FastConnect 8800.
What Do The Snapdragon 8 Elite & Elite Extreme Gen 6 Have In Common?
Both the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 platforms are built on Qualcomm’s advanced 2nm process node and “powered by the custom-built Qualcomm Oryon CPU, rearchitected Qualcomm® Adreno GPU, and the advanced Qualcomm Hexagon NPU.” The basis of these chips enables both versions to support many of the same next‑gen AI, gaming, imaging, and connectivity features.
Qualcomm says this dual‑flagship strategy “extends its flagship portfolio to power the agentic AI age and the next generation of premium mobile experiences.” Both chips enable agentic AI that is immediate, personal, and adaptive, and both will debut in flagship smartphones from leading global OEMs and smartphone brands.
Chris Patrick touched on the idea behind two chips this year: “By designing two innovative platforms, we’re giving OEMs greater choice as we collectively shape the capabilities of the next generation of intelligent, personalized, mobile experiences.” Qualcomm boasts that this Snapdragon 8 Elite dual strategy offers “two of the world’s fastest mobile SoCs,” and through testing at Snapdragon Summit 2026 and through device reviews that are soon to come, we are excited to experience this firsthand.
