The second annual Meta Quest Gaming for 2022 is finished, and the company brought a bunch of announcements to kick off the Spring and Summer seasons.
Meta VR announced the event on March 31, 2022, on their website, and promised, “new game announcements, gameplay-first looks, updates on games coming in the next year, and a whole bunch of surprises.” The event was roughly 30 minutes long and streamed live on Twitch, YouTube, and Horizon Venues.
Some of the highlights include NFL Pro Era, the first-ever NFL-licensed title on Quest, a full-length sequel to the survival horror hit The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners, fan favourite Among Us now VR now, and Bonelab, the fourth project from developer Stress Level Zero.
Let’s dive into all the announcements revealed during the presentation and go into the game details when the games are expected to launch and trailers.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2 Retribution 2022
Kicking off the presentation is The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2, a sequel to the first game that was released two years ago. Players can expect fewer resources on their trek through New Orleans as well as, more walkers, and a new and bloodthirsty threat that will haunt players as they explore the city. The game will be released later this year.
NFL PRO ERA – 2022
Next up is NFL Pro Era. The first officially licensed NFL game to hit VR. NFL Pro Era uses NFL game data to create an authentic on-the-field experience. Players can lead their team to a Super Bowl, improve their QB skills, or play virtual catch with their friends in their favourite NFL stadium when the game punts onto VR later this year.
Among Us VR – 2022
That’s right, Among Us is venting onto VR in a fully 3D environment played entirely in first person. Innsersloth, Robot Teddy, and Schell Games revealed it in a world premiere today. Try not to be sus when Among Us VR releases by the end of 2022. Schell Games and Meta Quest also announced a partnership during the event, letting fans know to stay tuned for more information about what is coming next.
Red Matter 2 – 2022
We got another spaced themed game coming up in the Meta VR Showcase and this time it’s Red Matter 2 the sequel to the original Red Matter which ended on a cliffhanger. Red Matter 2 will take players across the solar system, from a base on our moon to a space station above Saturn’s rings, and beyond. The team says to stay tuned for updates later this year.
Espire 2 – TBA
Another space game is next, and this time it’s Espire 2. Digital Lode and Tripwire Present are back with a bigger-and-better sequel to 2019’s Espire: VR Operative. No release date was given during the event.
Moss: Book II – Summer 2022
Now, on a cuter note, Quill is back. The cute and tiny hero of the original Moss, is back in Moss: Book II coming to the Meta Quest 2 this summer. Book II is building on the original game’s story by continuing with the revelation that a winged tyrant is hunting Quill. Thankfully, Quill has a partner, and that partner is you.
Resident Evil 4 | The Mercenaries – 2022
After Resident Evil 4 was released on Meta Quest 2 last year, fans asked about the Mercenaries. Thankfully, Meta has a solution. The Mercenaries has been entirely rebuilt for VR by Armature Studio, in partnership with Oculus Studios and Capcom. The game is focused on challenges where the player needs to take out as many Ganados as possible before time expires.
Beat Saber: Electronic Mixtape – 2022
Bonelab – 2022
Next up is Bonelab. The fourth project from developer StressLevelZero, Bonelab is built for both Quest 2 and PC VR. Bonelabe builds on its predecessor, pairing a brand new story with two years of innovation and interaction engine process. Players will find themselves in a mysterious underground lab where they will have to find the truth about their reality.
RUINSMAGUS – 2022
In RUINSMAGUS, players will journey deep into its subterranean realm in search of precious and powerful articles. This JRPG features 26 fully-voiced quests and releases later this year.
Cities: VR -2022
The second last announcement of the show was the city builder game Cities VR. While not a one-to-one port, Fast Travel Games is making sure fans of the console game Cities: Skylines have an appreciation of the unique experience of the scale and scenery of designing their own cities in VR.
Ghostbusters VR – 2022
Last but certainly not least, is Ghostbusters VR. Mark Zuckerberg dropped by to announce this Sony Pictures VR-published ghost-sucking experience. Play alone or team up with three friends for a big and engaging Ghostbusters adventure.
