Setting An Odd Precedent

A singular fan’s ire towards Splatoon 3’s lack of Inkling customization choice has reached Nintendo directly today in a shareholders meeting.

Right on the heels of a Nintendo Direct that included exciting announcements — one of which was Splatoon 3 related — a disgruntled fan stormed the Nintendo shareholder meeting today, as a shareholder himself, to complain about the ‘boy’ Inkling customization choice. The fan reportedly purchased ¥512,000 ($3,570 USD) to share his concerns on the state of Inkling customization due to Nintendo’s non-responsive reaction to letters he allegedly sent to the company. In a Tweet thread shared below, Twitter user Haruikatako identified themselves as the culprit and explained their Splatoon 3 plot.

The outlier event was first reported by another Twitter User, NStyles, who also reportedly attended the Nintendo shareholder meeting. NStyles outlined the events as they transpired (loosely translated by Google) by saying Haruikatako started by sharing his issues with customization options surrounding male Inklings and went into a rant, although most of the transcript was unavailable due to NStyles saying “details are omitted because it is a question of a dangerous person.”

Nintendo President Shunturo Furukawa reportedly interrupted the fan by saying his question was too long, and Haruikatako ignored it and continued. After the rant concluded, Furukawa reportedly responded with, “Thank you for your interest in playing our game. We appreciate your valuable opinion.”

In Haruikatako’s admission Tweet thread, they shared the reasoning behind their actions, including the previously mentioned letters they reportedly sent to Nintendo regarding Splatoon 3 customization concerns. He said in a translated Tweet, “At the Nintendo shareholders’ meeting, I complained about the current cold treatment of Splatoon boys (commanders, high-colour city emotes, etc.)!” and explained he had been warned by his parents to “not get involved in consumer finance.”

Although the event is over, Haruikatako says, “That’s why I did it with the regret of doing it rather than the regret of not doing it.” Splatoon 3’s newest Splatfest involving a battle over which ice cream flavour is best, is scheduled to launch on July 14 and run until July 16, so fans can get into the action then.
