Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Is Not Reaching Expectations Warner Bros. Says

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, despite only being out for just over three weeks, has fallen short of sales expectations, according to Warner Bros.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been facing the ire of fans since it launched back on January 30. Aside from CGMagazine’s review scoring the title an abysmal 4 out of 10, — Justin Wood calls it a “heroic misfire” — Metacritic with its 60% critical score and a user score of 37%, the whole gaming universe at large appears to agree. Today, Warner Bros. conducted a financial call (reported by IGN) that suggests the title has fallen short of expectations.

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League Is Not Reaching Expectations Warner Bros. Says

Warner Bros. Discovery Chief Financial Officer, Gunnar Wiedenfels said, “This year, Suicide Squad, one of our key video game releases in 2024, has fallen short of our expectations since its release earlier in the quarter, setting our games business up for a tough year-over-year comp in Q1,” admitting the game has provided a ‘bad look’ when comparing the company’s previous year sales marks. The financial call (without sharing specific figures on sales) directly compared the new Rocksteady-developed game to Hogwarts Legacy, the top-selling game of 2023.

On SteamCharts, Hogwarts Legacy (a single-player game) stood at a massive peak of 527k concurrent players, whereas Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (a multiplayer game) stands at 13k. The current Steam player count is also heavily skewed towards the 2023 release, which adds context to Wiedenfels’s meaning when he mentions “a tough year-over-year comp.”

While the present looks pretty troubling for Suicide Squad, Rocksteady aims to right the ship. The official Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League X (formerly Twitter) account has been hard at work updating players on the fixes they’re implementing to the game at a rapid pace, and new characters are on the way, starting with The Joker, so fans have fixes to look forward to in the future, but only time will tell if it will be enough.
