Kaitlyn Dever Reportedly In Talks to Play Abby in The Last of Us Season 2

Druckmann Also Hints at The Last of Us Part III

The Last of Us 'Close' To Casting Abby For Season 2

After the sensation of HBO’s The Last of Us adaptation last year, speculation has been swirling around the internet for future cast members, and today, they may have found Kaitlyn Dever as Abby.

It has been eight months since HBO’s hit series The Last of Us aired its finale, and since ‘Look for the Light’ concluded season one, fans have been speculating on further casting choices for season two. Like everything else in film production, The Last of Us‘ second season renewal was stifled by the recent WGA SAG AFTRA strikes and now that those have concluded amicably, production is set to start on January 7th.

With the continued production Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann has stated the second season will follow the Part II video game narrative, which means Abby Anderson will play a pivotal role in how the show will move forward. According to film reporter Jeff Sneider, Kaitlyn Dever is “in talks” for the role.

The Last Of Us 'Close' To Casting Abby For Season 2 &Amp; Potential 3Rd Game Revealed

Interestingly enough, Kaitlyn Dever has ties to Naughty Dog, as the actress portrayed Nate and Elena’s daughter Cassie, in the fourth title A Thief’s End, so it would be a familiar casting. It’s also worth mentioning that Kaitlyn Dever was also up for the role of Ellie prior to the choice of casting Bella Ramsey in season one of The Last of Us. Showrunner Craig Mazin has confirmed that The Last of Us season two would only cover a fraction of the Part II video game; the rest will be stretched over more seasons moving forward.

Neil Druckmann Confirms Continued Collaboration With The Last of Us Composer

In other Last of Us news, series composer Gustavo Santaolalla may have allowed Neil Druckmann to spill the beans on the incessantly teased threequel during the acceptance of the Latin Grammy for a Lifetime Achievement Award. While it has been confirmed Naughty Dog is currently working on an unannounced single-player title, the only actual confirmation of a Last of Us video game development is the postponement of ‘Factions‘ from their official X (formerly Twitter) account. This is where Druckmann stoked the flames of speculation again in a post that can be seen below.

Santaolalla accepted the award, and Druckmann, almost on cue, fired out a post that reads “Congrats, maestro! What an incredible body of work! (But keep in mind… we have a lot more collaboration ahead of us!)” Fans should take that last bit of info at face value, however, until Neil Druckmann officially announces the third title in the series every allusion to the third game should be taken with a grain of salt. The Last of Us season two is set to start production in January 2024.
