Now that March is coming to an end, new shows will be arriving in Netflix’s ever-growing catalogue, so here is what to look out for in April 2024.
As April approaches, Netflix aficionados eagerly anticipate the arrival of a fresh wave of captivating content to indulge in. From thrilling dramas to side-splitting comedies, the upcoming lineup promises to deliver an eclectic mix of new shows that are bound to captivate audiences worldwide. Let’s delve into the exciting slate of Netflix originals and eagerly anticipated releases set to premiere this April.
Ripley – April 4th
Andrew Scott takes on the role of con artist Tom Ripley in this thrilling adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 novel, The Talent Mr. Ripley. This six-episode series will follow the story of Ripley as he is hired by a wealthy man to travel to Italy to convince his son Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn), to return home. Ripley accepting this job will be the beginning of a life fraught with murder and deceit.
Parasyte: The Grey – April 5th
Based on the manga series by Hitoshi Iwaaki, where humans become infected by alien parasites that take over their bodies. Directed and co-written by Yeon Sang-Ho, the creator of Train to Busan, Parasyte: The Grey will be a six-episode series reimagined for a Korean setting following a group known as Team Grey as they investigate the murders caused by the parasites.
The Grimm Variations – April 17th
For those more interested in an animated series, The Grimm Variations will be a twist on the classic Grimm fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood, following the perspective of the Grimm brothers’ younger sister, Charlotte. It will be a six-episode series by the highly respected Japanese animation studio, WIT Studio, with character designs by CLAMP, known for series such as Card Captor Sakura and the critically acclaimed Code Geass.
Dead Boy Detectives – April 25th
A spin-off series to Neil Gaiman’s Sandman and based on the DC comic series of the same name, Dead Boy Detectives follows two dead teens named Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri) and Edwin Paine (George Rexstrew), as they solve supernatural mysteries instead of moving on to the afterlife. It will be an eight-episode series with the young sleuths dealing with ghosts, witches, and demons, among many other supernatural forces.
City Hunter – April 25th
A live-action adaptation film of Tsukasa Hojo’s legendary manga series, which captivated millions in Japan. City Hunter follows Ryo Saeba (Ryohei Suzuki), a premier “sweeper” navigating the gritty underbelly of modern-day Shinjuku, Tokyo. With a cool demeanour and fun personality, Ryo will take on several roles, from bodyguard to assassin, to help out the needy and deal with the scum of the underworld.
