LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Sells 3.2 Million Copies in its First Two Weeks

The Biggest Global Launch for a LEGO Game

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Review 1

WB Games has announced that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has sold 3.2 million copies in its first two weeks, which officially sets the record for the biggest global launch for a LEGO game.

The publisher added in a press release that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has “exceeded sales records across every platform, region, and edition.” The milestone set by the recently released game comes from other records the Star Wars compilation game has set, including becoming the second-biggest physical launch in the UK. Additionally, according to GameRant, the game also dominated on Steam with a peak of 82,517 concurrent players—which took the thrones from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order —and even surpassed Elden Ring’s spot as the best-selling game on the platform during its launch week.

In addition to the release, developer TT Games is supporting the game with additional content, including the recently released Rogue One DLC pack. The DLC added a sleuth of new characters from the fantastic standalone Star Wars movie, including Jyn Erso, Cassian Andor, Baze Malbus, Bodhi Rook, Chirrut Îmwe, Director Krennic, and K-2SO. Already available DLC packs include The Mandalorian Season 1 Character Pack, Solo: A Star Wars Story Character Pack, The Trooper Pack, and The Classic Characters Pack. Upcoming DLC packs include The Mandalorian Season 2 Character Pack and The Bad Batch Character Pack which are all dropping on Star Wars Day on May 4th.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was developed by TT Games under the Lucas Films Games brand, and announced in 2019. The game aimed for a 2020 release. That obviously didn’t go as planned as the title faced multiple delays which led to the 2022 release. While a fantastic game that has the spirit of Star Wars in spades, behind the scenes, according to Kotaku, the game was the opposite as LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was being worked on in a crunch environment where overtime was expected.

Interviews with anonymous former employees described their experience with TT games as “PTTSD.” This isn’t to take away from the game’s success but the mistreatment and undervalue of game development employees should be highlighted as game crunch is a factor of studio mismanagement and is somehow still practiced in this day and age.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch.
