The $1 dollar deal for an Xbox Game Pass trial has reportedly been pulled today from Microsoft, as Starfield launches next week.

Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass has been a bread and butter staple for PC and Xbox gamers to try out new, trending games for many years. While it has been a great subscription service for being economical and easily accessible, the trial offers have seemingly been pulled. As spotted by Polish site XGP, players can no longer try out 14 days of Game Pass for $1/£1, as was the company’s offer earlier this month. The disappointment comes as Starfield will officially be launching next week on Wednesday, September 6, and players will now need to purchase a full month’s subscription fee, with no free trial.

With Microsoft and Xbox’s last couple years of shaky releases of Redfall and Halo Infinite, it does seem to be a strategic move from the green company to do this before Starfield‘s release date. Yet, it could also be a double-edged sword as players will now have to commit to a console(£9/$10.99 USD a month), PC (£8/$9.99 USD a month) or Ultimate (£13/$16.99 USD a month) price tag to try out the game for at least a month. Not a bad deal compared to paying its full cost of £70/$70 USD upfront though.

Microsoft only relaunched the free trial offers back in July, but had been slowly dialling back since the start of August. This decision was explained back in March when Microsoft pulled the Game Pass promotion, where they said they were “evaluating different marketing promotions for new members in the future.” Despite this sad news of losing the 14-day trial, a full subscription does not only grant players access to play Starfield. There are a bunch of other games to enjoy! here is a list of all games included in September’s Game Pass:

While Starfield’s preconceptions seemed to be mixed still, the full reviews are still underway, and either way it seems like players will need more than a month to fully experience Starfield as Bethesda‘s Pet Hines recently said that he has played over 150 hours of the game. With everything shown so far, it definitely has a lot of RPG elements and replayability that will hopefully give Elden Ring a run for its money on average length to beat the game.

Starfield will be out for Early Access this Friday on September 1, 2023, for those who bought the Premium Edition, Premium Edition Upgrade, or the $300 dollar Constellation Edition. Otherwise, players who purchased the Standard Edition or subscribe to PC Game Pass, it will be released on September 6, 2023. It will be out on Xbox Series X|S and Microsoft Windows PC.
