Sony Settles PlayStation Store Class Action Lawsuit For $7.8 Million Soon

The Last of Us Part II (PS4) Review

A recent win in a class action lawsuit against Sony Interactive Entertainment highlighted that many players can begin getting refunds.

Sony Interactive Entertainment faces the heavy hand of justice, and it is not Batman nor Bruce Wayne behind it. In a recent public announcement, a judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of California slammed Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC with a $7.85 million bill to refund select PlayStation Network (PSN) users for past PlayStation Store purchases. This resolves the case claim related to the Caccuri, et al. v. Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC class action lawsuit. The case initially began when Sony violated federal antitrust law and certain state laws, a problem Sony is currently facing across worldwide courts.

According to the post on Saveri Law Firm’s page, the settlement class eligible for payment includes those who, from April 1, 2019, to December 31, 2023, purchased a digital game via the PlayStation Store that was previously available through a game-specific voucher at retail. The lawsuit covered many antitrust laws, and the judge ultimately saw how Sony’s PSN framework also “eliminated competition and monopolized the market for Sony digital games,” resulting in higher prices for some consumers. Unsure if you are eligible to get your refund, we will break it down here.

Those who fit the settlement class definition and have active PSN accounts are automatically included in the settlement class. As detailed in the settlement filing, dated April 8, 2026, settlement class members will receive compensation “in the form of cash-value PlayStation Network account credits.” Those who qualify but have deactivated their PSN accounts are encouraged to contact the 877 number located on the top right corner of the settlement website or reach out with qualifying details via mail. These members of the settlement class may receive compensation equal in value to the PSN credits.

The amount to be refunded varies and is based on the games you may have purchased on the PlayStation Store. More than 100 games on the list were shared via the law firm’s website, including titles like the God of War Collection, Killzone Shadow Fall, Until Dawn, The Last of Us, LittleBigPlanet 3, The Jackbox Party Pack, NBA 2K18, Star Wars Battlefront, Destiny: The Collection, and more. The full list can be found here.

The law firm alleged that there are more than 4.4 million eligible PlayStation Network accounts, and users will see their PSN accounts credited once the final approvals pass through. The court will have a Fairness Hearing on October 15, which will see the final judgment and the plan for allocating the millions of dollars to eligible accounts. Justice is finally being served, as the lawsuit was initially filed in May 2021.

To be clear, this lawsuit is separate from another similarly filed claim in the United Kingdom. It is also a class action lawsuit where the case accuses Sony of “unfairly charging its UK customers too much for digital games and in-game content purchased through the PlayStation Store.” Unlike this recent settlement, Sony could pay up to $2.7 billion to UK residents as a result of alleged antitrust actions. In the wise words of Mordo in Doctor Strange, “The bill comes due, always.” With recent console price increases, this should only be chump change for SIE.
