The nominations for the 2024 Golden Globe Awards were announced Monday morning, the first awards show to kick off the 2023 awards season.
And the award for best marketing this year goes to…”Barbenheimer!” At least that is what it seems like to me, but the list pretty much said it all. The nominees for the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards was revealed this morning (Monday, December 11, 2023), seeing nine nods to Barbie and eight for Oppenheimer. The final season of Succession also led with nine nominations, with The Crown and The Bear following with four nods a piece.
The 27 nomination categories for honouring film and television were hosted and announced by Cedric “The Entertainer” and Wilmer Valderrama. It was live-streamed on CBSNews.com. They also reiterated that the 2024 Golden Globe Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, January 7, 2024, from 8pm-11pm E.T. Another new detail this year will be that CBS will be broadcasting the show this year, as part of the new deal with the Golden Globes and the network. It will also be available to stream on Paramount+ and the CBS app.
The Golden Globe Awards came to CBS after the relationship of the show and NBC were cut. The awards ceremony came under flak for its scandals and boycotts over alleged acts of racism and ethical disregard within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which organized the Globes and voted for years to determine its nominees and winners.
As a result of the changes, the HFPA was disbanded and the Golden Globes were sold. Dick Clark Productions is now the owner and producer of the Golden Globe Awards. Now, the nominees and winners are chosen by a voting body of 300 members from 75 countries. Additionally, the upcoming Golden Globes will mark the debut of two new categories: cinematic and box office achievement in motion pictures and best stand-up comedian on television.
Any films and series released within January 1st to December 31st in 2023 has been considered for the nominees for the upcoming awards show. Here is the list of this year’s Golden Globes nominees:
