Frightmare in the Falls and Fan Fest Spook Halloween Weekend

A Fitting Weekend for Cosplay in Niagara Falls

Frightmare in the Falls and Fan Fest Spook Halloween Weekend

Niagara Falls was spooktacular this Halloween weekend with both Frightmare in the Falls and Fan Fest 2021 taking over the Scotiabank Convention Centre!

Con’s are making a comeback now that Covid-19 restrictions are starting to loosen up. Halloween has never looked so scary, with the halls of the Frightmare in the Falls filled with horror villains, victims and heroes. From Freddy Krueger, to Jason Voorhees and even Leprechaun himself, some of the most iconic horror names showed up in cosplay.

Additionally, a lot of famous faces showed up to meet and greet with fans, including actors Ken Kirzinger (Freddy vs Jason) , CJ Graham (Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives), and Linden Porco (Leprechaun Returns). Director and make-up effects artist Steven Kostanski, who CGM interviewed for his film Psycho Goreman, also made an appearance.

The floor was filled with booths sporting horror masks, action figures and toys. A few booths were selling spooky snacks and demon dolls. Vehicles from Jeepers Creepers, Mad Max and The Munsters took up the right side of the room with fans posing for pictures, cosplay and all.

The most notable part of Frightmare in the Falls this year would have to be the cosplay. Fans went all out, as they should this Halloween weekend.

Niagara Falls Fan Fest 2021 ran alongside Frightmare in the Falls this year, with each event requiring separate entry. Though significantly smaller than the usual Niagara Falls Comic Con that takes place each summer, it was clear that fans were happy to have their familiar Con back, in any capacity.

Some familiar attractions came out to the fest; The 501st Legion, the firetruck from A Christmas Story, and the popular vintage arcade arena. A giant Jabba the Hut was on display and fans flocked to it, surrounded by Storm Troopers keeping watch. Booths selling Funko Pops, action figures, comics and toys filled the floor, with plenty of artists selling art featuring fan-favourite characters.

Fan Fest also features a slew of celebrities, with panels and photo-ops featuring Linda Ballantyne, Katie Griffin & Toby Proctor from Sailor Moon, or Paul Sun-Hyung Lee and Derek McGrath from Kim’s Convenience, and opportunities to meet Phil Guerrero from YTV, Kim Coates from Sons of Anarchy, and more.

Cosplay at Fan Fest was also at a high, giving us the chance to see some great ideas outside the horror genre. Iron Man, The Mask, Cher (Clueless), and a few lovely Disney Princesses are just a few to note.
