Players have already encountered a bug on Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League that shows they have already beat the game.

Completing the campaign or story mode in games can be quite strenuous and tiresome, but typically rewarding for players who are invested in rich storytelling. But in the case of Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, players are finding that they do not need countless hours to finish the game. The online co-op game has already seen multiple reports of players having the status of their games as already completed.

While the game officially releases on Friday, February 2, 2024, players who purchased the Deluxe Edition can play 72 hours earlier than the regular version players. The first area to go live was New Zealand, and players were surprised to find this bugged status displayed that they “completed the game.” Less than an hour of server uptime, Rocksteady took the servers offline and told players the downtime would last several hours while it investigated the auto-game-completion bug.

The Rocksteady Twitter/X account wrote on the matter: “We’re aware that a number of players are currently experiencing an issue whereby upon logging into the game for the first time, they have full story completion. To resolve this issue, we will be performing maintenance on the game servers. During this time the game will be unavailable. We expect this to take several hours and will update once we have more information. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

This issue with Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League only adds to the surmounting list of problems with this game’s release and reception from fans. The game was originally announced back in 2020 at DC FanDome, alongside news of the Gotham Knights and The Suicide Squad film directed by James Gunn in 2021. However, news broke that it was delayed to 2022, with multiple delays in between then and 2024.

The game’s early preview critiques were not pleasant from multiple sources, so fans have also flocked to skepticism. Despite the fact that the game is set in the successful Arkham-verse of games, this one has received the most flak. But it may be warranted. The PC community noticed that the game added Denuvo (a notoriously controversial digital rights management software) almost last minute on their Steam page; a DRM which has generally been proven to negatively impact performance of the game.

The gaming industry has seen a lot of delays, especially since game launches have reached an abysmal high since Cyberpunk 2077 set a really detrimental precedent. But CD Projekt Red has also proved that their games get better with time. The troubling part of this new Suicide Squad game is that it is multiplayer-based, so the game is dependent on the health of the servers. Many fans have been expressing their thoughts on how the game should have an offline mode. The devs said they would implement an offline mode post-launch but at an unannounced date in 2024.
