2023 was a monumental year for anime and anime-inspired series. There were a lot of great anime series returning, continuing or beginning in 2023. The obvious suspects were anime series like One Piece, Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Arc Part 2, Mashle: Magic and Muscles, Hell’s Paradise, Trigun Stampede, and the continuation of Bungo Stray Dogs. Here is the list of some of the most talked about and best anime series of 2023.
Vinland Saga Season 2
Vinland Saga season 2 continues the story of Thorfinn and his quest for revenge. This season introduces a new friend to him named Einar, who Thorfinn meets when Einar is also purchased by a kind slave owner Ketil. Both of them are promised their freedom in return of working in the fields. As soon as they become acquainted, they work towards their freedom together, no matter the cost. This season’s masterful storytelling prepares to show Thorfinn’s transformation from a good warrior into a great one.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — The Swordsmith Village Arc
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has been a trending anime series for the past three years and continues to do so with countless fans supporting it. The season begins with a bit of exposition and lore building episodes before getting into some serious battles. It was cool to final see all of the Upper-Rank Kizuki demons. The season had some cool fights, and the audience got to see Genya Shinazugawa use a gun to slay demons—a very jarring moment at first. Overall, it pushed the story forward a good amount by the end of the season.
Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 3
Many say this anime series milked its way to extending the final season, but it was definitely a good call to flesh it all out. The conclusive final part to end the long-running series offered closure and clarity to fans. It showed how the era of titans were reaching its end, and the future without them was promising. Will Eren Jaeger accomplish his final mission to protect his friends in a really abstract way?
Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead
Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead was a tour-de-force anime series of the summer in 2023. While it had some airing delays, it was well worth it for its amazing art style and spin to the zombie horror genre. It even blends some comedy against the tense moments. The adventures in the apocalypse with Akira Tendo are never a dull moment.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2
Topping off the list, Jujutsu Kaisen made its return for its second season following the release of the first film for the anime series—Jujutsu Kaisen 0. While MAPPA studio also almost faced airing delays due to controversial circumstances, the team managed to bring one of the best arcs/seasons to grace TV screens in 2023. The show had superb storytelling, insane animation, high-stakes fights and many laugh out loud moments.
